The Dead
Hank Harrison
Celestial Arts, CA. 1980. First printing paperback. Some yellowing and creasing to cover and spine, quite fine otherwise.
From the publisher:
"Hank Harrison is a man who saw that a job had to be done and that he had the specific qualifications to do it. As one of the founders of the Haight-Ashbury community he was the first manager of the rock group known as the Warlocks, which later became The Grateful Dead. Harrison realized that the drugs-and-rock exploitation in the late 60's was not merely a fad or a catch-all for dirty hippies and dropouts, but a social movement of real importance. Black and white photos through out book."'
Hank Harrison was a Haight Ashbury OG and member of the Warlocks, so you know this is the real deal. This book is completely in the mix hippie anthropology of the highest order. You may hate them, but you'll at least understand them better after this one. Appendix B includes the astrological charts for some of the better Dead shows. Highly recommended and one you'll be thinking about for a long time.
