[SoF] [USSR] [Poppies]
Soldier of Fortune
May 1988
Soldier of Fortune, CO. 1988. Like new.
For an early issue this one is a harbinger of things to come, deep and dirty articles like:
"Maiming for Marx" (Incredible title for a piece on land mine usage in El Salvador)
"Night Fight at Morro" (Another insane piece of reportage on a SoF team fighting with Spetsnaz along the Afghan/Pakistan border.)
"Poppies to the People" (Great piece on Soviets flooding the drug market with seized poppies.)
"Hammered, Sickled, and Hungover (Wild story about rampant alcoholism in the Soviet military. Ever want to know how to distill booze using a radiator? Tap in.)
This issue is predictive of the kind of stuff that would become this magazine's bread and butter down the road, with a heavy emphasis on drugs, booze, and the black markets of Europe. Heavy one.
