Illustrations throughout, illustrated endpapers, all hem in these deeply elegaic works of the dark ages.However, the selling point of this book is the absolutely lovely penciled in annotations by it's former owner. With a deft hand, she interrogates the beauty of these works with the enthusiasm of a scholar with the promise of tenure. This book is totemic - a rare work of literary white magic.
