[Visionary] [Socialist] [Assassinated]

Huey Long

Harry Williams

Vintage Books, NY. 1981. First Vintage paperback edition. Uniform yellowing to text block. Some creasing to the spine, a tiny bit of delamination on the rear cover, a few minor ding to front cover. A very good copy.

From the publisher:

"Winner of the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award, this work describes the life of one of the most extraordinary figures in American political history. Huey Long was a great natural politician who looked, and often seemed to behave, like a caricature of the red-neck Southern politico, and yet had become at the time of his assassination a serious rival to Franklin D. Roosevelt for the Presidency. In this "masterpiece of American biography" [New York Times Book Review], Huey Long stands wholly revealed, analyzed, and understood."

This book shreds, it's like some anti-matter universe version of "The Power Broker". While I think that Huey Long re-entered the Zeitgeist through that pay to win video game "World of Tanks", he's really a deeply fascinating individual, representing a certain kind of "Black Swan" political event that can and may yet again happen in US politics.

"Why weep or slumber America?
Land of brave and true
With castles, and clothing, and food for all
All belongs to you
Every man a king! Every man a king!"
