Hand to Hand Combat

Training Division, Bureau of Aeronautics, US Navy

US Naval Institute, MD. 1943. First edition hardcover thus. No dust jacket. Yellowing to text block, age appropriate. Throughout the book, what appears to be a child's pencil doodles appear - these don't hamper the readability, but appear throughout (see images for examples, these could be erased by you - I left them in for providence's sake). A good copy of a very rare one.

From the publisher:

"This is one of the best combative manuals from World War 2, developed by the US Navy V-Five Staff, that included the renowned American wrestler Wesley Brown. It is then not especially surprising that wrestling skills predominate in this manual, and form the base skill-set for this combative system. From opening gambits and fundamental combative skills, such as eye-gouging and groin kicks, to advanced sentry removal techniques and disarms, this wrestling legacy makes it unlike other hand-to-hand manuals that use Karate or jujitsu as the base fighting form."

Don't pass this over on the account of some pencil doodles...it is pretty mind blowing. This is all about how to survive when backed into a corner. The real deal. The dudes in here are buff and cool looking and all about fighting dirty. An extremely fun and interesting read. Highest recommendation.
