A comprehensive, fully illustrated history of English cinema from it's inception through the present day of 1978. Authored by Roy Armes, English film scholar whose attempts to synthesize the entirety of the English film canon into a coherent history is laudable. The tension with Hollywood presented throughout is a good reminder that there's more to film than a few square miles of California.
